One question I am asked quite often has to do with accident liability… specifically, if you own an airplane, and something bad happens, how can it be avoided?

Some of the questions I have been asked include:

What if I loan my airplane to a friend or lease it to an FBO, I have no control over the aircraft, if a crash occurs, can I be held liable?

Can I form a corporation or a limited liability company that will technically own my aircraft and thereby avoid personal liability if my airplane crashes?

As a former insurance agent, a former insurance defense attorney and a former defender of insurance companies in bad faith lawsuits, I have seen just about everything.

I defended a physician who was near retirement and had substantial assets. The physician had bodily injury liability limits of $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident. The Plaintiff in that case asked the jury to award over $100,000 for medical bills plus a significant amount for pain and suffering. Had the Plaintiff prevailed, the good doctor would have been covered for only a fraction of the total judgment and her personal assets would have been at risk.

This article will inform you how to switch from one attorney to another during the handling of your legal matter. Before you switch attorneys, you must first terminate or end the attorney/client relationship with your first lawyer.

You must first tell your attorney that you no longer want him or her to continue representing you. The best way to do this is by written letter followed by a telephone call confirming your intentions. That way, both you and your attorney will know that you intend to end your attorney/client relationship.

If you are trying to handle your own personal injury auto accident case, we think you are making a mistake proceeding without an experienced personal injury lawyer, much less not having any lawyer at all.

We will explain in great detail the reasons why it is typically a bad idea in the vast majority of cases here. But we also know some people are going to proceed without a personal injury lawyer.

Personal Injury

When you are injured in an accident you should not have to worry about medical bills or how to get compensated for your injuries and pain and suffering caused by someone else. You need someone who you can trust to help you though this. The most important thing for you to focus your time and effort on is taking care of yourself, treating your pain, recovering from your injures and getting back to work. There are very few things in life more important than your health and well-being.

The Maridon Law Firm is a personal injury law firm that handles Nevada injury accident cases everyday. We help injury victims just like you recover fair and just compensation for injuries they’ve suffered due to someone else’s negligent driving, from the most serious auto accidents involving life-threatening and permanent injuries, to lesser, but still serious cases involving back and neck pain, not to mention the inevitable mounting medical bills.

We will fight to get you reimbursement for your medical expenses, lost wages, permanent injury, mental anguish, and for your pain and suffering.

We Will Help You Get Fair Compensation

As you may know, the insurance companies will quite possibly try to get you to settle right away.

Some insurance companies have been known to offer a cash settlement right away in exchange for a Release of all future liability. In most cases, accepting such an offer means that you are giving up legal rights and is usually a serious mistake.

In our experience, the insurance company never has your interest in mind. In fact, you may be due thousands more than they offer. A quick settlement offer is usually a sign that they know you have a case, and they want to get rid of you as quickly and as cheaply as possible.

Hurt by a drunk driver?

Besides the obvious criminal penalties associated with DUI, the law in the State of Nevada also allows victims of DUI accidents to seek compensation from at-fault drivers. In addition to compensation for injuries, pain and suffering and lost time at work, victims may also be entitled to punitive damages, or damages that are designed to punish the DUI driver. Punitive damages are civil penalties and are awarded in addition to any criminal penalties or restitution that the criminal court may require. A victim in a DUI accident may seek punitive damages even if the at-fault driver is not convicted of DUI in a criminal court.
